maruchan-seimen-chuka-soba-ramen
Maruchan Seimen Chuka Soba Soy Sauce Ramen Packet Japanese Non-Fried Noodles 5 Servings 525g

This is a bag of five servings of old-style Japanese soy-sauce ramen that you cook in a saucepan, not a cup you pour water into. The noodle is thin and takes two minutes, and the liquid soy soup has the smell of niboshi, dried baby sardines, in it. Buy it if you like a fish note in your ramen; if you want a plain soy ramen, the Seimen shōyu (plain soy sauce) is the one.

On the pack: マルちゃん正麺 中華そば 和風醤油味. Seimen (say-men) is the name of the range, and chūka soba (choo-kah soba) is the old Japanese name for soy-sauce ramen.

What you're getting

The noodle is the reason this range exists. It is dried straight from raw dough, with no steaming or frying, so it cooks up smooth and eats more like a fresh noodle than a packet one. This one is the thinnest of the three Seimen packs we sell.

Two minutes, then eat it straight away. A thin noodle goes soft quickly.

There is a fish note in the soup that a plain soy ramen does not have, and it is not to everyone's taste.

Most of the salt is in the soup. If the whole sachet tastes too strong, use part of it.

Allergens: contains wheat, egg, fish and soy. Japan's allergen chart has no category for molluscs such as clams, scallops or oysters, so check the seafood extract in the ingredient list if you avoid them. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.

Also on the label: there is meat in it. The soup is made with pork and chicken extract, and the pack declares gelatine as well. Anyone who avoids pork or meat should skip it.

The one thing to get right: nothing is drained. You boil one noodle block for two minutes, then tip the noodles and all of the cooking water into a bowl where the soup sachet is already waiting. That water is the broth. The cooking steps printed on the pack are in Japanese, so they are set out in English below.

This is not the American Maruchan Ramen; Seimen is a separate Japanese range. Japan updated the soup in September 2026, and the allergens did not change.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/1312/5858/files/maruchan-seimen-chuka-soba-5-pack-bag.webp?v=1792286560
