maruchan-seimen-shoyu-ramen
Maruchan Seimen Shoyu Ramen Packet Japanese Non-Fried Noodles 5 Servings 525g

This is a bag of five Japanese soy-sauce ramen servings you cook in a saucepan, not a cup you pour water into. Each serving is a round block of medium-thick, non-fried noodle with its own sachet of liquid soy soup, built on chicken and pork with garlic and ginger. Buy it for a light, classic soy ramen with a chewy noodle; if you want a rich, heavy broth, this is the wrong bag.

On the pack: マルちゃん正麺 醤油味. Seimen (say-men) is the name of the range, and shōyu means soy sauce.

What you're getting

The noodle is the reason this range exists. It is dried straight from raw dough, with no steaming or frying, so it cooks up chewy and smooth and eats more like a fresh noodle than a packet one.

It is the middle noodle of the range: medium-thick, three minutes in the pan. The block is round, so it fits a small saucepan.

The soup is a liquid sachet, not a powder, with garlic and ginger in its aroma. The garlic is forward.

Most of the salt is in the soup. If the whole sachet tastes too strong, use part of it.

Allergens: contains wheat, egg, milk and soy. Milk is declared on the pack but no ingredient names it, so our ingredients panel does not show it: on milk, trust the allergen list. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.

Also on the label: there is meat in it. The soup is made with chicken extract, chicken fat and pork extract, and the pack declares gelatine as well. Anyone who avoids pork or meat should skip it.

The one thing to get right: nothing is drained. You boil one noodle block in a measured 500 ml for three minutes, then tip the noodles and all of the cooking water into a bowl where the soup sachet is already waiting. That water is the broth. The cooking steps printed on the pack are in Japanese, so they are set out in English below.

Seimen also makes a chūka soba, an old-style soy-sauce ramen: that one has a thin noodle and a dried-sardine aroma, and this is the plain one, with no fish note. This is not the American Maruchan Ramen; Seimen is a separate Japanese range. Japan updated the recipe in September 2026, and the allergens did not change.
