morinaga-marie-biscuits
Morinaga Marie Japanese Milk Biscuits 21 Pieces

A thin round milk biscuit that snaps crisp and then melts away, lightly sweet with a gentle milk taste, sold in Japan since 1923. It is the same kind of biscuit as an Arnott's Marie, but baked thin and wrapped in packs of three, and in Japan it is as much a base for no-bake cakes as a biscuit for tea. Buy it if you want a light, plain biscuit or a thin base for a fridge cake; if you want a big everyday tin of plain biscuits, this is the wrong box.

On the pack: マリー (ma-ree).

What you're getting

Twenty-one biscuits in seven sealed packs of three, so you open only what you eat.

It is a dry biscuit, so pour a drink first; dunked in milk it softens.

One box is enough for a 15 cm no-bake cheesecake base, with biscuits left over.

The recipe changed in 2023, and some long-time fans find the milk taste fainter than they remember.

Allergens: milk, wheat and soy, and it is made on equipment shared with egg. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.

Also on the label: the margarine and shortening may be made with animal fat.

It is a crisp tea biscuit, not a rich buttery cookie. It is not Manna, Morinaga's smaller, softer biscuit for babies. Morinaga also sells ice creams under the Marie name in Japan; this box is the biscuit. Some boxes come in a limited character print; the biscuits inside are the same.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0824/1312/5858/files/morinaga-marie-milk-biscuits-box-front.webp?v=1793426085
