About
Thin pretzel sticks with sharp lemon, salt and black pepper. Glico's summer-only Pretz. It's properly sour: sour enough that one reviewer's first reaction was to say so out loud on the first stick. If you like lemon pepper and you want a snack with some acid in it rather than a sweet one, this is the interesting box in the range.
On the pack: プリッツ<旨塩レモン>ペッパー仕立て (purittsu, uma-shio remon, roughly "savoury-salt lemon").
What you're getting
- Sharp, salty, then pepper: the lemon arrives first and hardest, salt underneath it, and the black pepper turns up late as a warm note rather than heat. Nobody finds it hot. A few people wish the pepper were louder.
- It is the saltiest Pretz we sell: about half again as salty as the standard green box, gram for gram. That's the product working as named, but it's worth knowing before you open it.
- Opinion splits on the lemon: most people find it fresh. A few find it tastes more like lemon flavouring than fruit. Both camps are real and you may land in either.
- Summer only: Glico brings it back each year around April and it disappears again. It isn't restocked in between, so when it's gone it's gone until the next run.
- Two sealed packs inside the box: 23.5 g each. These are smaller inner packs than the rest of the range, and a couple of buyers say so.
- Allergens: contains wheat and soy. No milk, which is unusual for this range. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.
Two things before you order. This is not Pocky and there's no chocolate on it, same maker, same stick, no coating. And the sourness is genuinely assertive: several people say a whole pack in one go is hard work, which is part of why the box comes split in two. If you are after something mild, the plain salted one, Pretz Umami Salada, the green box, is the one.

Our guide
How to eat it
- Eat one inner pack, not both. The sourness builds, and several people say a whole box in one go is hard going: the seal is there for a reason.

The maker
Where it comes from
- Glico
- Osaka
Glico has been in Osaka since 1922, and Pretz is one of its oldest lines. The first box went on sale in Hiroshima in April 1962, sold as something to eat with a beer. It didn't work: children bought it instead, so the year after, Glico relaunched it as a snack for them and it sold out again and again.
Salty Lemon is one of the seasonals that sit around that core range.
