About

Small soy-glazed rice crackers, each rolled in a strip of crisp nori seaweed, mixed with roasted peanuts and packed in four small sealed bags. It tastes salty-savoury, of soy and the sea, with a faint spicy warmth and the toasty crunch of the peanuts. Buy it if you like beer nuts or Japanese rice-cracker mix; if you want something sweet, or a snack with no peanuts, this is the wrong bag.

On the pack: 海苔ピーパック, nori-pī pakku (NOH-ree pee PAK-koo), "nori and peanut pack".

What you're getting

  • Four bags, not one: the 85 g is split into four sealed bags of about 21 g, so you open one at a time.
  • The black wrap is seaweed: each cracker is wound in nori, the dried seaweed sheet used on sushi. It is crisp and smells of the sea.
  • Barely hot: the crackers have a mildly spicy soy glaze, and few buyers mention the heat at all.
  • A drinking snack: buyers in Japan often eat it with beer, and the soy-glazed crackers are on the salty side.
  • Allergens: contains peanut, wheat, soy and fish, and may contain prawn, crab, walnut, egg and milk. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.
  • Also on the label: the fish is mackerel, part of the seafood seasoning, and stock from before the early-2026 recipe change has chicken in that seasoning too. Anyone who avoids fish or meat should skip it.

Keep the peanuts away from children aged five and under: the maker warns that a peanut can get stuck in a small child's throat, and not to give them to a child who is crying.

If the bag looks smaller than you remember, the weight has been 85 g since 2021.

Dietary notes

The seafood seasoning is made with mackerel, so it is not vegetarian. It also contains hydrolysed protein, an ingredient that adds a savoury taste. Its source is not named, so it may be made from meat or fish. Packs made before the early-2026 recipe change also list chicken in that seasoning; the current recipe does not.
