$18.66 per 100 gA small cube of Japanese milk chocolate, dusted in cocoa powder, that collapses on the tongue instead of snapping. Closer to the soft centre of a Lindor ball than to a block of Dairy Milk, but drier on the outside, and it goes in one bite. Meiji sells it at no other time of year. Buy it if you have ever held a square of chocolate in your mouth waiting for it to soften; if you want something to snap and chew, this is the wrong box.
メルティーキッスプレミアムショコラ (me-ru-tee kissu)
You will see this same chocolate sold as Meltyblend and as Creamy Milk in different markets: the names travel, the product is the same line. If you are wondering because of the Rum & Raisin and Brandy & Orange boxes: those are different Meltykiss flavours, and there is no alcohol in this one's ingredients list. It does not need refrigerating either, despite looking like the kind of soft chocolate that would. Meiji asks for a cool place, not a fridge. We have not been able to confirm whether the emulsifier is suitable for vegetarian or halal diets, so we do not claim it either way.
The maker's ingredient list, translated from the Japanese pack. Anything after the break is an additive — the Japanese label lists those separately.
Sugar (manufactured overseas), vegetable fat, cocoa mass, whole milk powder, cocoa butter, roast butter powder, skim milk powder, cocoa powder, creaming powder, emulsifier, flavouring. Contains milk and soy.
The printed label on the pack is always the authority on ingredients and allergens, not this page — please read it in full before you rely on our summary. If you are unsure about an ingredient, contact us.

Counts of how many reviews mentioned each thing, not a score. One review can mention several. Every quote is our translation, with the original Japanese beneath it.
Melts too well. Other chocolate goes rock-hard in winter, but Meltykiss melts no matter how cold it gets.

This season's come round again. I buy Meltykiss pretty much every year.

"Meiji means chocolate" is ancient history. A slimy melt, and I taste no cocoa at all.
チョコレートは明治は、今は昔。にゅるりとした口溶けで、カカオの風味も感じません。

Our tip: The corpus splits on this — 4 of the same 20 reviews single out a rich cocoa and cream depth.
When Meltykiss appears in stores you realise winter has arrived.

The maker
Meiji has been in business in Japan since 1917, and has made Meltykiss since 1992.
It was built around a single idea: a chocolate that gives way the moment it reaches your tongue rather than breaking against it. In Japan its return to the shelves each year tells people the season has turned: the company's own phrase for it is "the chocolate that tells you winter is here".
