About

A 180 g pouch of yogurt-flavoured jelly that you drink through the spout, from Morinaga's in Jelly range. It tastes like Yakult, a sweet lactic drink, more than a thick spoonable yoghurt, and the jelly is broken up like a crushed jelly, so it goes down easily. Buy it if you want a small yogurt jelly drink between meals; if you want a protein shake, this is the wrong pouch.

On the pack: inゼリー プロテイン5g (in zerii purotein go-guramu), with ヨーグルト味 (yogurt flavour) in smaller type.

What you're getting

  • The pouch has a spout and a screw cap, so there is nothing to spoon or pour: you drink it straight from the pouch, wherever you are.
  • The sweetness comes from three sweeteners: stevia, sucralose and acesulfame K.
  • The finish can taste bitter or medicinal, and the yogurt a little watered down. Plenty of people buy it again anyway.
  • It is the 5g pouch, not the 15g one. The 15g pouch is a different product with pork collagen in it; this one has no pork and no gelatine.
  • Allergens: milk and soy. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.

It is a snack between meals, not a meal and not a protein shake. The recipe changed in November 2024, so an English listing that mentions "whey peptide 5,000 mg" is describing an older pouch.

Our guide

How to eat it

Good to know

  • Chill it before you drink it.
  • Never freeze it. The jelly turns watery and does not come back when it thaws.
  • Once it is open, cap it, keep it in the fridge and finish it the same day.
  • Sucralose, one of its sweeteners, can loosen the stomach in some people, so have one pouch at a time until you know how it sits with you.

The maker

Where it comes from

  • Morinaga
  • Tokyo
  • Founded 1899

Morinaga launched in Jelly in 1994 as Weider in Jelly, a jelly you drink from a spouted pouch, and dropped the Weider name in 2018. The yogurt protein pouch is now on its fourth recipe under the same barcode, and the current one arrived in November 2024.
