About
A big share bag of Japan's everyday konjac jelly, about 24 little twist-open pouches in white peach, mango and grape. Think of it as Aeroplane jelly's firmer, bouncier cousin: you squeeze it straight from the pouch, and it's dense enough that you actually chew it. If you've seen konjac jelly going around online and wondered what the fuss is, this is the standard Japanese version of it, in the big 480 g share bag.
ぷるんと蒟蒻ゼリー, "purun to konnyaku jelly" (konnyaku is Japanese for konjac), is the name on the bag, if you're matching it to something you tried in Japan.
It is not the same thing as the Korean konjac jelly pouches, the drinkable ones sold ten 150ml pouches to a box. Those are sipped, and they're sold as supplements; these are chewed, and they're sold as food.
What you're getting
- Taste: white peach and grape are made with real peach, apple and grape juice; mango is made on mango purée. They're sweeter than the fruit billing suggests, sweetened with glucose-fructose syrup and sugar plus acesulfame K and sucralose, and you can tell.
- Texture: springy, bouncy jelly with real bite. It's much firmer than a gelatine jelly, closer to a soft gummy than to a wobbly jelly cup.
- Count: packed by weight rather than by count, so the number in a bag varies, usually 24. Each pouch is a two-bite serve.
- Vegetarian: konjac is a plant root, so it sets without gelatine, and there's nothing animal-derived in any of the three flavours: no gelatine, no carmine, no shellac. That's us reading Orihiro's own ingredient list, not a certification.
- Allergens: the white peach jelly contains peach and apple juice, the grape jelly apple juice; the mango declares none. Australian labels don't have to flag peach or apple as allergens, so if you avoid them, look for them by name in the ingredients.
Konjac jelly is firmer than it looks: chew it properly, keep an eye on children and older eaters, and never freeze it, because the pouch can tear and fire the jelly out as one hard lump.

Orihiro changed this recipe without changing the barcode, so an older bag may list one extra ingredient: reduced starch syrup, a plant-derived sweetener.

How to eat it
Good to know
- Eat them cold, straight from the fridge: they taste better chilled.
- Push the jelly out a little at a time rather than sucking it from the pouch, and chew each piece properly. Keep your mouth off the opening, which can cut a lip, and have someone keep an eye on children and older eaters.
