About

A soft-baked cookie made with melon juice and milk in an orange dough, with chocolate chips and sweet white bean paste, twelve to a bag and each one wrapped. It smells of melon as soon as you open the bag. Buy it if you want a soft cookie made to taste like melon soft-serve; if you want the strong taste of fresh melon, this is the wrong cookie.

On the pack: カントリーマアム 夕張メロンソフト (kan-tree mah-am, yoo-bah-ree meh-ron soff-toh).

What you're getting

  • Yubari melon is an orange-fleshed melon grown in Yubari, on Hokkaido, Japan's northern island, so think rockmelon rather than honeydew. The dough is baked orange to match it.
  • The Soft in the name means soft-serve, not the texture.
  • The texture is the usual Country Ma'am one, crisp on the outside and soft and a little moist in the middle.
  • It is a seasonal limited edition in Japan, released in June 2026, so it is not on shelves all year.
  • Allergens: contains wheat, milk, egg and soy. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.

To warm them, take them out of their wrappers first, and don't cover them with cling film.

Good to know

The maker

Where it comes from

  • Fujiya
  • Tokyo

Country Ma'am is Fujiya's soft cookie, modelled on the freshly baked cookies popular in America in the 1970s and 80s. Each one is made from two different doughs baked slowly at a low heat, so the outside crisps while the middle stays moist, and the recipe has been improved more than 40 times since it first went on sale.

This seasonal edition is made with juice from Yubari melons and milk, both from Hokkaido, Japan's northern island.
