Product information

About

Oreo's cocoa biscuits with a pale-pink strawberry-flavoured cream, in the Japanese box of ten biscuits in two sealed packs of five. The cream is tangy rather than very sweet, against the slightly bitter cocoa biscuit. Buy it if you like Oreos and want a fruity one; if you want it to taste like fresh strawberries, this is the wrong box.

On the pack: オレオ いちごクリーム (oreo ichigo kurīmu; ichigo means strawberry).

What you're getting

  • The cream's strawberry taste comes from a little strawberry powder plus flavouring, and its pink from added colour.
  • The ten biscuits come in two sealed packs of five, not in small packs for sharing out.
  • It is a regular part of the Japanese Oreo range, not a limited edition.
  • This Japanese box is made in China.
  • Allergens: wheat and soy, made in a factory that also handles egg and milk. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.
  • Also on the label: coloured with vegetable colour and carotene (older boxes used carmine, a red colour made from insects). No milk or egg in the recipe itself; both appear only in the factory warning above, so it is still a risk for a milk or egg allergy.
Ingredients

Wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, cocoa powder, dextrose, corn starch, salt, strawberry powder

raising agent, emulsifier, acid, flavouring, antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E), colours (vegetable colour, carotene) (contains wheat and soy).

Allergens
Contains
  • Wheat

May contain
  • Egg
  • Milk

Not ingredients — these are made or handled on the same equipment as this product, so traces are possible. We list every shared-equipment allergen stated on the pack or by the maker.

Dietary notes

Boxes made before a recipe change were coloured with carmine, a red colour made from insects, which rules out a vegetarian diet. Current boxes use vegetable colour and carotene. To tell which you have, look for カルミン酸 (carmine) in the Japanese ingredient list.

Our guide

How to eat it

Good to know

  • They are eaten as they are, straight from the pack, or the Oreo way: twist off the top biscuit, lick the cream, then dunk the biscuit in milk.
  • The other use is in desserts: broken into pieces, they go over ice cream or into a cheesecake base.

The maker

Where it comes from

  • Mondelēz Japan

Oreo was first sold in 1912 in Hoboken, New Jersey. In Japan it was made under licence by Yamazaki-Nabisco, a Japanese biscuit company, for more than 45 years; when that licence ended in 2016, Mondelēz, Oreo's owner, began selling it in Japan itself.

The current strawberry cream joined the Japanese range in September 2024 as its third flavour, after the vanilla and chocolate creams; an earlier strawberry Oreo had been dropped around 2018. In 2016 Mondelēz said Japan's Oreo would be made at its biscuit plant in Beijing, so the Oreo sold in Japan is made in China.
