About

The classic Oreo, cocoa biscuits with the white vanilla cream, in the Japanese box of ten biscuits in two sealed packs of five. The biscuit is crisp and slightly bitter, and the cream is sweet. Buy it if you like the regular Oreo and want it in small sealed packs; if you want chocolate in the middle, this is the wrong box.

On the pack: オレオ バニラクリーム (oreo banira kurīmu).

What you're getting

  • The ten biscuits come in two sealed packs of five, so the second pack stays sealed while you eat the first.
  • The five in each pack are not wrapped one by one.
  • It is a sweet biscuit, with sugar second on the ingredient list.
  • This Japanese box is made in China.
  • Allergens: wheat and soy, made in a factory that also handles egg and milk. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.
  • Also on the label: no milk or egg in the recipe itself. Both appear only in the factory warning above, so it is still a risk for a milk or egg allergy.
Ingredients

Wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, cocoa powder, corn starch, salt

raising agent, emulsifier, flavouring, acid, antioxidants (vitamin C, vitamin E) (contains wheat and soy).

Our guide

How to eat it

Good to know

  • They are eaten as they are, straight from the pack, or the Oreo way: twist off the top biscuit, lick the cream, then dunk the biscuit in milk.
  • The other use is crushed: they go into a cheesecake base or a parfait.

The maker

Where it comes from

  • Mondelēz Japan

Oreo was first sold in 1912 in Hoboken, New Jersey. In Japan it was made under licence by Yamazaki-Nabisco, a Japanese biscuit company, for more than 45 years; when that licence ended in 2016, Mondelēz, Oreo's owner, began selling it in Japan itself.

In 2016 Mondelēz said Japan's Oreo would be made at its biscuit plant in Beijing, so the Oreo sold in Japan is made in China.
