$10.97 per 100 gBite-size Japanese puff pastry with a milk cream filling instead of chocolate, in a 69 g box.
In the line's 48th year, it is the first Pie no Mi with something other than chocolate inside. Buy it if you want a milky, buttery pastry snack; if you want chocolate, take the original Pie no Mi.
とろリッチパイの実 is the name on the box. Pie no Mi means "pie fruit", and toro means soft and melting.

Good to know
In their own words
The aroma is clearly different: milky.
from mognavi, a Japanese food and drink review site
I bought it expecting "melting cream", but it was set and didn't melt at all.
from monolog, a Japanese review site
It was less sweet than I expected.
from mognavi
I'd expected the filling to be really rich and sweet, so it was a let-down.
from mognavi
The milk is rich and tasty.
from mognavi
The inside doesn't melt! But it is different from chocolate, like a slightly firmer version of the milky whipped spread you put on bread.
from mognavi
The milk cream suits the pastry so well that I couldn't stop eating.
from monolog
Kept in the fridge, the cream goes hard and close to chocolate, so let it come back to room temperature before eating.
from mognavi
It's crisp and crumbly, yet the flakes don't scatter, so it's easy to eat.
from monolog
Apparently it's the first Pie no Mi without chocolate, and it did taste vague to me, lacking punch.
from monolog
I re-baked them briefly in the toaster: crisp pastry and flowing cream, a whole different way to eat it.
from mognavi
Even so, the cream inside was set, not the soft "toro" the name promises.
from mognavi
You lose some of the creaminess, but personally I liked it best chilled.
from mognavi
Still, it's not that different from the regular one, so I think it's too expensive.
from monolog
The usual chocolate one feels like a classic supermarket snack, while this feels somehow richer, like something from a bakery-café's baked-goods shelf.
from mognavi
The kids seemed to like it too!
from monolog

The maker
Lotte launched Toro Rich in May 2026. It broke a 48-year habit: until then, every Pie no Mi had been filled with chocolate.
The pastry is the same 64 layers, made with margarine that contains fermented butter, and the filling is a milk cream. Lotte says it took more than two years to develop.
