About
A thin, hollow biscuit roll with chocolate cream on the inside instead of a coating on the outside. It shatters when you bite it, and the chocolate is mild rather than rich. Buy it if you want a light, crisp biscuit that happens to be chocolate; if you want a strong chocolate hit, this is the wrong stick. Pocky carries its chocolate on the outside, where you taste it first.
On the pack: ピコラ チョコレート (pi-ko-ra).
What you're getting
- The biscuit wall is thin enough to shatter rather than snap, and it crumbles as you eat it.
- It is a lining, not a filled centre: a thin layer of cream, so this is a biscuit first.
- Ten sticks, in two sealed bags of five, open one and the other keeps.
- If you knew Picola in Japan years ago, the pack is smaller now, the bags went from six sticks each to five, so twelve became ten.
- Allergens: wheat, egg, milk and soy. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.
You will see these sold as wafer rolls, cookie sticks, crepe cookies or even "egg rolls": that last one is a translation quirk, not the savoury Chinese-American roll. Whatever a seller calls it, it is a sweet biscuit. Toppo and Pocky are two other Japanese biscuit sticks sold here.

- What they grumble about
The price went up AND they've made it too thin… are they trying to turn it into Toppo? The taste seems carried over, but this thinness is laughable.
値段もあがってますがそれに加えて細くしすぎです…トッポ並にする気なんでしょうか?味はそのまま引き継げてると思いますが、この細さは笑えてきますね。

Our tip: The chocolate is a thin lining around the inside of the roll, not a filled centre — it was never a thick layer.

The maker
Where it comes from
- Yamazaki Biscuits
Picola has been on Japanese shelves since 1976, which makes 2026 its fiftieth year.
It is a thin sheet of biscuit rolled into a hollow tube, with the cream run around the inside rather than over the outside. The line runs to four flavours: chocolate, strawberry, custard, and a sweet-potato one for autumn.
