About

Eight sealed bags of six thin biscuit sticks, coated in chocolate: 48 sticks in all. The biscuit is toasty, and the stick snaps cleanly instead of crumbling. Buy it if you want the Japanese recipe in small bags you can open one at a time.

On the pack: ポッキーチョコレート, Pocky chocolate.

What you're getting

  • The chocolate is made from cacao mass (ground cocoa beans) and cocoa butter, over a wheat biscuit stick.
  • The stick is thin and snaps when you bite it.
  • Eight bags, six sticks in each. Open one and the other seven stay sealed, which a single big bag cannot do.
  • There is no shortening, no colouring and no raising agent other than yeast in it.
  • It melts. Keep it below 28°C and, through a Sydney summer, keep it in the fridge, the chocolate softens in a hot car or a handbag.
  • Allergens: contains milk, wheat and soy. The same production line also runs egg and peanut products. Read the pack's own label before you rely on ours.

The English sticker we have seen on these bags lists shortening, colouring and a raising agent, and a weight of 101.6 g. Those describe the pack sold before the 2025 recipe change: it had all three and weighed 101.6 g. The pack itself prints 11 g a bag: 88 g in all.

This is the same chocolate and the same biscuit recipe as our two-pack box: the difference is the format, not the recipe. The box gives you two large bags; this gives you eight small ones.

Our guide

How to eat it

Good to know

  • Open one bag and leave the other seven sealed until you want them.
  • Keep it below 28°C. Through a Sydney summer that means a cupboard away from the window, or the fridge.
  • If the chocolate has gone soft in the heat, it is still fine to eat, but as it cools it can set in white patches and taste flatter. Keeping it cool from the start avoids that.
  • Six sticks is one bag. Putting them out for people, count on a bag each rather than splitting one between two.

The maker

Where it comes from

  • Glico
  • Saitama

Glico has been making Pocky since 1966, and in 2025 the recipe was pulled apart and rebuilt. The search for the cocoa went through more than thirty growing regions, including a plantation in the Amazon rainforest, and it ended in a blend rather than a single origin.

The rebuild changed the biscuit as well as the chocolate. Wholemeal flour and fermented butter went into the dough, and shortening, colouring and raising agent came out: sixteen ingredients down to thirteen. The way the chocolate is mixed changed too: the cacao mass now goes in over several stages rather than all at once, which Glico says means less of its aroma escapes during production.

The eight-bag pack is the sharing format. The line Glico puts on Pocky is Share happiness! The shape of the stick and the way it gets passed around is the whole idea, and eight small bags is that idea made practical.
