About

A mini cup of Japanese soy-sauce ramen, 35 g, with pink fishcake slices that carry the face of Chiikawa, a Japanese comic character. The soup is a light, familiar shoyu (soy sauce) broth, much like a smaller Cup Noodle, and all you add is boiling water. Buy it if you want a snack, a side or a gift for a Chiikawa fan; if you want a full meal, this cup is too small.

On the pack: ちいかわラーメン しょうゆ味 (chee-ka-wa rah-men, shoyu flavour), under the チャルメラ (Charumera) name.

What you're getting

  • A 35 g cup, 30 g of it noodles, against a regular Cup Noodle's 78 g: a snack or a side dish rather than lunch.
  • In the cup with the noodles: the pink Chiikawa fishcake slices, seasoned pork, egg and spring onion.
  • The lid comes in one of five designs, front and back, so you cannot choose which characters you get.
  • Charumera is Myojo's ramen brand, best known in Japan for its packet noodles. This cup tastes like its cup ramen instead: a light, everyday shoyu.
  • Allergens: contains egg, milk, wheat, crustaceans (shrimp), molluscs (squid, scallop, clam), fish and soy. Japanese labels don't have to flag scallop or clam as allergens, so the pack names them only in its ingredient list (shellfish extract). If you avoid them, look for them by name in the ingredients.
  • Also on the label: there is meat in it: seasoned pork, a beef seasoning, chicken extract and gelatine. Anyone who avoids pork, beef or meat should skip it. It is made on equipment that also handles peanut and buckwheat.

The water goes in boiling and the cup is small and light, so if it is for a child, an adult should pour the water.

Ingredients

Fried noodles (wheat flour (made in Japan), vegetable oil and fat, salt, chicken extract, soy sauce, flavour seasoning); toppings (seasoned pork, fish paste, egg, spring onion); soup (salt, dextrin, sugars, soy sauce, flavour seasoning, spices, shellfish extract, hydrolysed protein, beef seasoning, yeast extract)

modified starch, flavour enhancer (amino acids etc.), calcium carbonate, kansui (alkaline noodle salts), caramel colour, thickener (polysaccharides), flavouring, antioxidant (vitamin E), acidity regulator, emulsifier, carotenoid colour, squid ink colour, vitamin B2, vitamin B1, spice extract, monascus colour (contains egg, milk, wheat, shrimp, squid, beef, mackerel, soy, chicken, pork and gelatine)
