About
Milk chocolate set on a salted wholemeal biscuit: sweet, but there is real salt in the base, and it is the salt rather than the chocolate that people remember. Nine full-size pieces, each individually wrapped. The closest thing you already know is a chocolate digestive, though the biscuit is coarser and crumbles more crisply than that suggests.
If you've only met Alfort as the little blue box, this is the other one, and it isn't just bigger. Bourbon's own ingredient panels put wheat flour first here and sugar first on the Mini, and this recipe carries roughly twice the salt per gram in pieces more than twice the size. Alfort is a genuine staple in Japan: the big share bag was the country's best-selling confectionery item for five months running to November 2025. That's the range, not this bag.

What you're getting
- Taste: Milk chocolate over a wholemeal biscuit, and it's the biscuit that surprises people. This is the properly salted recipe, and the salt is what stops nine of them tasting like nine chocolates.
- Texture: A coarse, short biscuit that crumbles crisply, under a slab of chocolate thicker than you'd expect for the size of the piece.
- How many you get: Nine, individually wrapped. It used to be ten: Bourbon cut the count in October 2024, and this pack is that change. The biscuit itself didn't shrink. Bourbon cut the count, not the piece.
- In summer: It will arrive soft. The bag's own storage line is 28 °C, and an Australian summer beats that indoors. It's a cosmetic problem rather than a taste one.

Two things people get wrong before they buy. The chocolate is a moulded slab pressed onto the top of the biscuit, not a coating wrapped around it. And this is not the mini box, nine pieces at about 10 g each, not twelve at four and a half.

How to eat it
- Try one straight from the fridge on a hot day: the chocolate goes hard and snappy instead of soft. Try a single piece before you chill the rest, because not everyone prefers it that way.
- The fridge is usually enough: some find the freezer takes it too far and makes the chocolate hard to bite.
- Keep it below 28 °C and out of direct sun. Above that the chocolate blooms: it goes pale and streaky, which spoils the look rather than the taste.

Bourbon works out of Kashiwazaki, in Niigata. The biscuits in this bag are baked at the company's Murakami plant, also in Niigata.
Alfort launched in 1994, and the sailing ship moulded into every piece has been there from the beginning. It isn't a real ship. Bourbon drew it, and says the name is meant to carry the idea of adventure and romance rather than any particular voyage.
