About
Strawberry chocolate on a toasty wholemeal biscuit, twelve pieces to a box. It's sweet-tart. There's real strawberry powder worked through the chocolate and an acidity that cuts it, and the biscuit underneath is lightly salted. Buy it if you found the plain Alfort too sweet and want a tarter one; if what you liked was its fuller chocolate, this is the wrong one.

What you're getting
- Taste: Sweet-tart strawberry over a toasty wholemeal biscuit. There are visible grains of strawberry powder through the pink chocolate and you can feel them as you eat.
- The biscuit is the tell: this one keeps the plain toasty wholemeal base, the same as the original Alfort Mini, where Bourbon's other berry Minis sit on a cocoa biscuit.
- Worth knowing: The pink coating is made without the ground bean that makes chocolate taste like chocolate (cocoa mass), where the plain Alfort's chocolate has it. It's a real difference in what you're eating rather than a colour change, and it is why this one tastes lighter on the chocolate side.
- Fruit and flavouring: the strawberry comes from both, and the ingredients list names strawberry powder, flavouring, and something added to make it tart (an acidulant).
- In summer: Like any chocolate, it can arrive soft in the heat, and the sailing ship stamped on each piece may smudge. That's not a safety problem.

Alfort itself is a staple in Japan. In 2025 the big 147 g bag of regular Alfort topped a Japanese sales chart for new and relaunched snacks five months running. That's the range, not this strawberry box. Bourbon has put out several strawberry Alforts: a raspberry-and-strawberry one, a winter melt-in-the-mouth one, and a Kyushu souvenir box, so the barcode, 4901360353637, is the reliable way to match a pack you saw. This one is a standing year-round line rather than a seasonal release, whatever an overseas listing calling it a limited edition says. It's the same twelve pieces in the same 55 g box as the original; if you see 73 g on another Australian listing, that figure is wrong.

Alfort is made by Bourbon, whose home is Kashiwazaki, in Niigata prefecture. The sailing ship stamped into every piece isn't a real one: Bourbon drew it themselves and named the biscuit after it, for the sense of adventure it carries.
